About TTRC
Thames Tradesmen’s Rowing Club is an inclusive and friendly club based on the Thames Tideway at the UL Boat Club in Chiswick. Since 1897, TTRC has championed participation and accessibility, and continues to welcome rowers of all backgrounds, ages and abilities from complete beginners to recreational rowers and competitive athletes. We offer outings six mornings a week, sometimes twice daily, as well as coaching for personal development and racing.
Over the years the club has won multiple prestigious races at Henley Royal Regatta and produced many rowers of international standard who have gone on to represent Great Britain at World Championships and the Olympics. Today, the club continues to have a strong presence at Masters events on the Tideway and beyond.
Our Coaches
Our coaches are all qualified to British Rowing standard, have years of experience on the Thames and coaching people of all abilities. They look forward to coaching you soon.

Social Club
Whether you are a recreational rower or a member of our racing squad, TTRC has a wide variety of social events on offer. From the humble post-row coffee in the bay to pub nights and brunch meetings in the nearby pubs on the Thames as well as our organised summer and Christmas parties.
In recent years we have also had an annual rowing camp with destinations such as Seville and Sicily.
Closer to home we have had picnics and a pub crawls by boat to Putney.
And we have had self-organised groups of Tradesmen take on rowing challenges in other parts of the the UK such as the 22km Great Ouse Marathon at Ely, the 21 mile Monster the Loch race on Loch Ness and the 21,6 miles Great River Race from Millwall in East London to Richmond in the West.
Any race day — whether the club’s annual Plum Pudding Race at Christmas or away days in Nottingham, Henley or neighbouring clubs like Kingston and Teddington — are always great fun. Not least the well-deserved pint in the pub afterwards!
Why TTRC?
Learn To Row All Ages
You’re very welcome to row with us, whether you are an old hand, or you’ve never set foot in a boat.
Friendly Rowing Club
We started our club because we wanted to enjoy ourselves on and off the water – and we still do! Come and try it for yourself
Qualified Coaches
All our coaches hold British Rowing qualifications, so they know how to encourage rowers to enjoy performing well, while staying safe.
Regattas & Races or Row for Fun
Some of us row competitively on occasion, but you may prefer to simply enjoy a gentle workout watching the riverside wildlife with your new friends!
British Rowing Recognised
Our association with BR helps to reassure you that we follow all their safety standards.
Membership For Everyone
We encourage members of all ages to infinity and beyond! (Well maybe not quite, but you get the gist!).
Our Objectives
Introducing people to rowing
Many people don’t get the opportunity to row in their life. We have a substantial section for those to learn and develop rowing with qualified coaches, and we want to encourage everyone who simply wants to get out on the water.
Make Rowing More Accessible
Getting access to a rowing club can sometimes be daunting especially if you do not want to be an elite athlete. We feel we have the right blend and actively encourage people who might not want the intimidation of a larger club.
Safe Relaxed Environment
Our club is situated at UL Boathouse and is on a beautiful stretch of the River Thames. We operate under the guidelines of British Rowing and our coaches have a vast knowledge of the water. We offer a fun whilst safe environment.
For Fitness and Enjoyment
Rowing is a great non-impact sport. Great for fitness and overall strength. Our stretch of the river is one of the most quiet, picturesque rural parts of the Thames with an abundance of wildlife.
Competitions for Racers
We run a programme of races and have a good number who do race. We enter both head of the river and regattas.
Our rowing kit is available to members to buy when racing.
Social and Inclusive
Rowing is a great social sport relying on teamwork and amazing friendships are made by all our members both at the club and at racing events.
